THE COMMANDMENTS

THE COMMANDMENTS WERE THE TERMS OF THE COVENANT RELATIONSHIP GOD MADE WITH ISRAEL. THEY WERE GIVEN TO MOSES BY GOD. THE FIRST TEN ARE FAMOUS, BUT THERE WERE ACTUALLY 613 RECORDED IN THE OLD TESTAMENT. THEY WERE INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO LIVE HOLY, LOVING LIVES SO THAT THEY COULD BLESS ALL NATIONS. TODAY, THEY CONTINUE TO GIVE WISDOM TO FOLLOWERS OF CHRIST ON HOW TO LIVE LIFE IN GOD'S LOVE AND ORDER.

THE TEN COMMANDMENTS

I am Yahweh, your God. You shall have no other gods before me. You shall not make any idols.

You shall not bear God's name in vain.

Remember the Sabbath and keep it holy.

Honor your father and mother.

You shall not murder.

You shall not commit adultery.

You shall not steal.

You shall not lie about your neighbor.

You shall not covet your neighbor's wife.

You shall not covet your neighbor's stuff.

THE ONE COMMANDMENT

When asked which commandment is the most important, Jesus answered with two. "Love the Lord your God with all of your heart, all of your mind, all of your soul, and all of your everything, and love your neighbor as yourself."

We love and obey God by loving our neighbors. Paul later says all of the commandments are summed up in "loving your neighbor as yourself." Whatever we do, say, or think, we should always be striving to do it with a posture of love.
