Advent is a period of four weeks where we celebrate and give thanks for Jesus' incarnation and birth, as well as look forward to the second coming, where Jesus will return, resurrect humanity, and renew all of creation, making all things right. The story of the Nativity and the preceding stories in the gospel accounts of Matthew and Luke are read in preparation for Christmas and our annual candle light service, where we reflect on the greatest gift ever given, God himself as the heart of creation in King Jesus.

"Advent" comes from the Latin word Adventus, meaning "arrival". It is an important part of the church calendar, marking the beginning of Jesus' life and the events that led to it, such as the Annunciation to Mary.
